Voice actor wanted for unpaid student audio podcast. – The Cask of Amontillado

Apply by: April 16, 2023

This is for a third-year student project and is unpaid.
This is a 15-minute audio drama adaptation of Edgar Allen Poe’s gothic short story ‘The cask of Amontillado’. The drama is set in an Italian city in Victorian times and tells the story of the amoral, devious and two-faced young aristocrat, Montresor. He is furious that his friend, fellow nobleman, Fortunato, has insulted his family and is determined to see a cruel revenge, by organising a vicious and slow death for his oblivious victim.
Recorded in a professional radio studio and will involve 3D surround sound recording, with multiple recording techniques employed. Actors involved will need to be aware that there is minor physical movement involved in this work and will be using omnidirectional microphones. This is a disturbing horror story and can be very graphic in the details of the murder at times so it may not be suitable for all audiences. Familiarity with the original text and other works by Edgar Allan Poe are encouraged but not necessary for this production.
We are looking for 2 male actors for this role. Previous acting experience is encouraged but not required. Actors need to be close enough to commute to the University of Lincoln and reasonable travel expenses may be reimbursed upon discussion. Refreshments will be provided on the day as well. The final piece will be made available to place on showreels.
Roles
Male voice role, any age but sounds 20-30
Montresor is a two-faced, sociopathic character who betrays his friend throughout the drama. This actor will be required to voice an upright and kindly person but switch to a more unnatural and creepy tone part way through the drama. This actor will have both dialogue scenes and narration scenes.
Fortunato
Male voice role, any age but sounds 30- 40
Fortunato is a naïve and well-meaning character that is a close friend of Montresor. He is a kind and jovial man but can be tactless about his words. Throughout the work he is drunk and jovial, looking forward to the wine his friend has until the very end when he realises the fate that awaits him. This actor would only be in the dialogue scenes but will have to act drunk throughout the piece.
Recording days are to begin from the week of the 17th of April but exact dates are yet to be confirmed. Please attach any examples of previous work or a recording of yourself reading a segment of the original ‘The cask of amontillado’ story, which is available for free online.
